India Running Out of 2G Radio Spectrum in Some Areas

India is running out of radio spectrum for its existing 2G network operators and has exhausted all the available spectrum in some of its license circles. According to an internal analysis by the department of telecom, seen by The Economic Times, 10 of the circles are now dependent on the military to vacate its radio spectrum if any additional capacity is to be made available.  more

Vodafone Seeks Delay in India's 3G License Auction

Even mighty Vodafone seems to be feeling the credit crunch, and has written to the Indian government seeking a delay to the 3G license auction - citing difficulties in raising the necessary funds. The auction is expected to be held before the end of this year, although recent reports have suggested the government may have to delay the auction due to radio spectrum issues.  more

Ukrainian Court Refuses to Grant 3G Licenses

Ukraine's Kyiv Appellate Administrative Court have overturned a previous ruling in favour of Kyivstar getting a 3G license. The telecoms regulator has constantly refused to grant 3G licenses to commercially-owned mobile operators, citing a failure by the operators to reach an agreement with military bodies on joint usage of the frequencies.  more

Thailand's TAC Unable to Launch 3G Services until 2009

Thailand's Total Access Communication (TAC) says that it will not be able to launch its 3G network until early next year at the earliest due to regulatory problems. The company had formed a partnership with CAT Telecom to deploy a 3G network on its existing radio spectrum but says that its partner has not yet approved the plan. CAT Telecom is state owned.  more
