TI Announces Low-Cost Multimedia Phone Chipset
Texas Instruments has announced a new OMAP-Vox single-chip solution to foster development of lower-cost multimedia-rich feature phones. Codenamed "eCosto," the new single-chip platform is leveraging TI's DRP technology which is successful with the "LoCosto" value platform in volume production today. The "eCosto" platform also leverages the multimedia capabilities of the OMAP-Vox platform in volume production today with the OMAPV1030 solution. more

3G Licenses Awarded in The Philippines
The Philippines telecoms regulator, the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) is understood to have awarded four 3G licenses to local companies. Existing GSM operators, Smart, Digitel and Globe have been awarded a license along with new entrant, Connectivity Unlimited Resources Enterprises (Cure). The NTC still has a fifth 3G licence that is expected to be awarded shorty - no details have been given so far to explain the delay. more

Lucent launches indoor CDMA base stations
Lucent Technologies has launched two CDMA2000 base station systems. The Flexent CDMA Modular Cell 3.0 is the most recent addition to Lucent's range of CDMA base stations. This base station platform can incorporate power distribution and battery back-up within the base station, reducing the size of the cell site equipment footprint by 33% and can grow to support more radio frequency carriers, increasing capacity for mobile operators. more
