Government Drives 3G Wireless Transition in China
China's National Development & Reform Commission (NDRC) believes that a fundamental restructuring of the nation's telecom industry is essential to promote the long-term growth of the country's fixed and wireless core communications networks. Because of this, the Chinese government is offering 3G licenses to the four state-owned telcos-China Mobile, China Unicom, China Telecom and China Netcom-as incentives if they are willing to accept reforms, according to iSuppli. more

Telia selects Nokia for 3G infrastructure
Telia Mobile has chosen Nokia as its sole supplier for a total 3G network in Finland. The two companies have signed a Letter of Intent (LOI), under which Nokia, the turnkey supplier, will deliver W-CDMA Radio Access Network (RAN) and its 3G IP mobility core network, including packet switched and circuit switched elements and related support services. The Letter of Intent is part of a recently announced pan-Nordic 3G network frame agreement between leading Nordic telecom operator, Telia and Nokia. As part of the agreement Nokia will also supply its 3G W-CDMA Radio Access Solution to NetCom in Norway, with an additional option for Denmark subject to licence. " more
