India to Announce $9 Billion Network Contract on Wednesday
India's state owned Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) says that it will launch the tender for its 93 million mobile lines on September 10th. The contract is expected to be worth around US$9 billion, and has been delayed several times already. more

India's BSNL Delays $6.5 Billion GSM Network Tender
In a move which probably wont surprise industry watchers, India's Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) has decided to delay the date for opening its monster US$6.5 billion tender for GSM infrastructure kit. The bids were due to be opened on July 16 - but will now not be opened until August 30th. BSNL has a track record of delaying, amending and renegotiating its GSM network tenders - but this time put the blame firmly at the flood of interest in the tender. more

Alcatel-Lucent Wins Japanese 3G Contract
Alcatel-Lucent says that it has entered into an agreement to provide the Japanese telecommunications service operator Softbank Mobile with a high-speed mobile access network. Under the terms of the agreement Alcatel-Lucent will deploy a 3G UMTS/HSDPA solution that will complement Softbank's current mobile voice service offer and enhance its broadband service portfolio. more

Alcatel Wins Malaysian 3G Contract
Alcatel has been selected by Telekom Malaysia (TM) as the prime supplier of Celcom Berhad, a wholly-owned company of TM, for its 3G/UMTS wireless network. The contract is valued at EUR70 (US$87.7) million. Under the agreement, Alcatel delivers 3G/UMTS radio access network infrastructure and digital microwave links to carry the traffic of enhanced mobile data services, enabling Celcom to complete the next phase of its national 3G deployment program. more
