Alcatel-Lucent and China Mobile have anounced plans to develop a centralized, collaborative, Cloud-based RAN (C-RAN). The companies say that the C-RAN will provide a common platform for multi-mode wireless standards such as GSM, 3G, and LTE, and is expected to lower OPEX by up to 50% and CAPEX by 15%. more

Alcatel-Lucent Wins South African 3G Contract
Alcatel-Lucent has won a EUR22 million (US$30 million) contract from South Africa's Vodacom to design, build and deploy an upgrade of its existing 3G network. The enhanced 3G wireless network will improve Vodacom's network voice-quality and data-transmission speeds, while further strengthening indoor coverage in urban areas. more

Taiwan's Tatung InfoComm, a wholly owned subsidiary of a Taiwanese conglomerate, Tatung Co., has selected Alcatel-Lucent to deploy a commercial WiMAX 802.16e-2005 (Rev-e) network in Penghu County, Taiwan. Tatung holds one of the commercial WiMAX licenses for Taiwan's southern regions. more

Alcatel-Lucent Wins 3G Contract in France
Alcatel-Lucent says that it is rolling out Bouygues Telecom's 3G/HSPA network in four of Bouygues Telecom's six operational regions in France. Under the framework of the five-year contract, Alcatel-Lucent is responsible for installation and deployment of UMTS/HSPA solutions. The solution encompasses the Alcatel-Lucent Radio Access Network solution, management and associated installation services. more
