Smart Phones Ring in Healthy Growth in 2009 Despite Mobile Meltdown
Although the outlook for the overall mobile handset market continues to dim, smart phones remain a bright spot with global unit growth as high as 11.1 percent in 2009, iSuppli is predicting. iSuppli's optimistic forecast for global smart phone unit shipments calls for 192.3 million units in 2009, up 11.1 percent from 173.6 million in 2008. A more pessimistic outlook calls for growth of only 6 percent this year, reaching 183.9 million units. more

According to a new Ovum forecast, the market for GPS-enabled mobile devices
will grow rapidly, from an estimated 163.9 million shipments in 2007 to almost
572 million in 2012. In the early years this growth has been driven by the CDMA
players, namely qualcomm, serving large CDMA markets such as the US, where the
E911 mandate stipulates the use of location-based technologies in handsets, and
markets such as Korea and Japan where demand for location-enabled services is
higher than in other regions.

Windows Smartphone Manufacturer to Delist from London Stock Exchange
UK-listed Dubai-based Windows smartphone manufacturer, i-mate has reported sales for the six-month ended of September of $20.6 million compared to $46.2 million for the same time last year.
