Qualcomm and Ericsson Demonstrate LTE TDD Mobility at 2.3 GHz in India

A qualcomm subsidiary in India and Ericsson have successfully demonstrated LTE TDD mobility at 2.3 GHz in an outdoor environment. The demonstration live streamed multiple high-definition video feeds to a mobile van in the Gurgaon area, showing a seamless hand off between base stations while maintaining session continuity. The demonstration was carried out by using Radio Access Network (RAN) and Evolved Packet Core (EPC) solutions from Ericsson, and USB dongles based on qualcomm's MDM9x00 multimode chipset that supports both LTE and 3G.  more

LightSquared Announces Chipset Partnership and Initial Device Manufacturers

USA greenfield LTE network, LightSquared has announced that qualcomm is integrating L-Band LTE technology in its mainstream chipset roadmap. qualcomm has also developed a satellite air interface technology called EGAL (Enhanced Geostationary Air Link), which enables the satellite mode of operation in mobile devices. qualcomm is adding L-Band LTE/and EGAL to standard qualcomm products, including its MDM9600 chipset - the world's first LTE multi-mode solution.  more

Huawei and ZTE Working on Qualcomm's Gobi Based Products

qualcomm has announced that five companies have begun developing products based on its expanded portfolio of 3G/4G solutions with a common Gobi application programming interface (API). Huawei, Novatel, Option, Sierra Wireless and ZTE are now developing mobile connectivity products - including embedded modules and USB modems - using the latest Gobi-enabled MDM chipsets with qualcomm's new Gobi API.  more

Shipment data for the cellular modems used to connect laptops and netbooks to the Internet indicate that more than 35 million of the devices hit the market in 2008. Of that total, the majority were the external USB modems that mobile operators have been pushing for some time.
