Qualcomm Raises its Outlook for the Next Financial Quarter
qualcomm has raised its financial guidance for the third fiscal quarter ending June 28, 2009. The company now says that revenues are estimated to be US$2.67 to US$2.77 billion compared to its prior guidance range of $2.40 to $2.60 billion. more

Qualcomm Expands Snapdragon Platform with 45nm Chipset
qualcomm has announced it is expanding the Snapdragon platform with a next-generation chipset that uses 45 nanometer (nm) process technology to provide faster processing and significant battery life improvements. The new Snapdragon QSD8650A chipset - scheduled for sampling before the end of 2009 - offers significant performance improvements including a 1.3 GHz processor for 30 percent higher performance as well as enhanced multimedia and 2D/3D graphics. more

qualcomm has confirmed that the Korea Fair Trade Commission (KFTC) has notified it of the results of a report into the firm regarding the lawfulness of some of its business practices in the country. HTC to Appeal Against German Patent Ruling
Taiwan based handset manufacturer, HTC says that it will appeal against a German court ruling that it had infringed patents owned by holding firm, IP-com related to 3G radio technologies. The court, in the German city of Mannheim, ruled against HTC last Friday. more

Mobile Phone Market Poised for Slowdown in 2009
The impact of the global economic crisis will spread to the mobile phone market resulting in a downturn in shipments in 2009. According to IDC, total mobile phone volumes will be 2.2% lower in 2009 than 2008 levels, the first downturn in annual shipment volumes since 2001 when shipments declined 2.3%. Over the past several years, the mobile phone market has enjoyed double-digit annual growth due to an increased emphasis on emerging markets. However, emerging market growth has been steadily slowing as these markets mature. IDC now expects worldwide growth to be just 7.3% in 2008 before slipping into negative growth in 2009. more
