Etisalat Renews Talks to Enter the Iraq Mobile Market

Emirates Telecommunications Corp (Etisalat) is reported to be in talks to acquire an Iraqi mobile operator by the end of this year. Etisalat's Chief Operating Officer Ahmad Julfar told the Reuters news agency that the company is in talks with a small operator with a limited coverage area, but declined to name the company.  more

Vodafone Wins Landline Operator License in Qatar

Qatar Telecom Confirms Indosat Purchase - Doubles First Half Revenues

Qatar Telecom (qtel) has reported that its first half group revenues jumped by 102% to QAR8.1 billion (US$2.2 billion), driven by acquisitions and continued marketing efforts. The group's EBITDA has increased 92% in the first half of 2008 compared to the same period last year, to stand at QAR 4.04 billion (US$1.1 billion). Net profit attributable to the shareholders stood at QAR 1.18 billion (US$324 million) for the first half of 2008: an increase of 33% over the same period last year.  more

Wataniya Palestine Granted Operating Radio Spectrum

Following a series of delays, it has been reported that Wataniya Palestine has been granted its operational radio spectrum so that it can launch its GSM network in the Palestinian Territories. Qatar based newspaper, The Peninsula reported that spectrum agreement reached with the Palestinian Ministry of Telecommunications and Information Technology (MTIT) will be for a staged release of radio frequencies over the next several months.  more

Airspan Wins WiMAX Expansion Contract in Jordan

Airspan Networks has announced today that wi-tribe has contracted for additional WiMAX equipment to expand their network across Jordan. wi-tribe Jordan has deployed Airspan's 3.6-GHz HiperMAX solution which allows a carrier the choice of fixed or mobile WiMAX on a single hardware platform. Airspan's HiperMAX base station with advanced radio technologies has enabled wi-tribe to minimize the number of base stations required for indoor coverage.  more
