WIND Hellas - Budget brand continues to burgeon
The Weather Investments-backed company WIND Hellas operates two brands in Greece, WIND and q-telecom. The combined customer total of the two was 5.27m at the end of Q1 09, a gain of 73k in the quarter and 687k in the year. Both of these figures showed improvements compared to the year-earlier figures of 59k and 418k respectively. On a proportionate basis, annual growth stood at 15.0%, up from 10.0% for the prior twelve-month period. more

Wind Group - ARPU holds up in Italy as Greek business improves profitability
Both European subsidiaries of Naguib SawirisĂ' Weather Investments have recently reported first quarter results, both showing net subscriber growth of less than 2% in the traditionally slow first quarter. In Greece, the combined total of WIND Hellas and prepaid-only unit q-telecom recorded an increase of just 1.3% in Q1. Meanwhile in Italy, WIND managed 1.9% growth, although there is an error margin here of more than 0.3pp due to the fact that customers tnumbers are only released to the nearest 0.1m. more

Greece - Accelerating Growth with 150% Penetration in Sight
The four Greek operators have now all reported Q4 2006 results. Although the 100% penetration landmark was reached as long ago as March 2004, the market shows no sign of slowing and, if anything, the rate of new connections is actually increasing. The chart below shows rising penetration measured on the right hand side and the quarter on quarter growth rate on the left. more
TIM Greece Sold to Egyptian Weather Group
Weather, backed by Egypts's Naguib Sawiris has paid EUR3.4 (US$4.4) billion for Greece's TIM Hellas. The sale price includes EUR500 million of equity plus EUR2.9 billion of net debt at year end 2006. Apax and TPG initially acquired TIM Hellas from Telecom Italia in June 2005 for EUR1.6 (US$2) billion. In January 2006 the consortium completed the follow-on acquisition of q-telecom, the fourth largest Greek mobile operator from Info-Quest S.A. for EUR360 (US$466) million. more

TIM Hellas Completes Purchase Of Q-Telecom
ATHENS -(Dow Jones)- Greece's mobile telephony operator TIM Hellas Telecommunications, Tuesday said its wholly-owned unit, Helen GAC Telecommunications, has completed the acquisition of q-telecom, the country's fourth-largest mobile operator. more

Infoquest Sells Q-Telecom Unit To Tim Hellas Holders
Texas Pacific and Apax Partners agreed to pay EUR325 million in cash for the q-telecom unit. The two companies will also take on an Infoquest corporate bond valued at EUR25 million. more
