Sweden Finishes "4G" Spectrum Auction

Lower call costs possible in Sweden

Sweden's National Post and Telecom Agency (pts) has presented a proposal concerning obligations for operators with significant market power (SMP). pts proposes that Telia Sonera, Tele2 and Vodafone shall have cost-oriented prices for calls to mobile telephones. Previously only Telia Sonera had such an obligation. Cost orientation means that the price undertakings charge other operators to connect calls to their customers' mobile telephones shall be based on the undertakings' costs. This can result in lower prices for the consumer. more

No change to Orange's 3G conditions

Sweden's telecoms regulator, the National Post and Telecom Agency (pts) has decided to reject Orange's application to delay the launch of its 3G network. The pts says that the reasons given by Orange are not sufficient to amend the conditions of its 3G license. Orange had asked for an extended development period - ready 31 December 2006 instead of 31 December 2003, and to be able to offer reduced coverage - 8,300,000 inhabitants in Sweden instead of 8,860,000. more

Swedish telecoms regulator conducts 3G coverage trials

Agilent Technologies has been contracted by the Swedish National Post and Telecom Agency (pts) to provide a comprehensive report on the signal strength coverage of the country's 3G networks. Agilent completed tests for pts in mid-January. The results enabled pts to assess the current state of signal strength coverage in designated areas of Sweden for service providers Orange, Hi3G, Vodafone, and Tele2 to ensure more consistent coverage and a higher level of service at commercial launch. more
