Sweden's telecoms regulator, the pts has invited operators to apply for a 15 year national licence for digital mobile telephony in the 450 MHz band. The new mobile system should satisfy the demands for mobile telephony in sparsely populated areas and replace the analogue NMT 450 in relation to voice services. Sweden likely to get a CDMA450 network
Sweden's National Post and Telecom Agency (pts) has presented a proposal for regulations on a national licence for digital mobile telephony in the 450 MHz band. The aim of the new licence is to satisfy the demand for mobile telephony in sparsely populated areas, a demand that is currently satisfied by the analogue NMT 450 system. This proposal means, among other things, that at least 80% of the surface area of each individual county will have coverage no later than 1 July 2007. more

Lower call costs possible in Sweden
Sweden's National Post and Telecom Agency (pts) has presented a proposal concerning obligations for operators with significant market power (SMP). pts proposes that Telia Sonera, Tele2 and Vodafone shall have cost-oriented prices for calls to mobile telephones. Previously only Telia Sonera had such an obligation. Cost orientation means that the price undertakings charge other operators to connect calls to their customers' mobile telephones shall be based on the undertakings' costs. This can result in lower prices for the consumer. more
