Vodafone 3rd-Quarter Sales Up On Sterlings Decline
Vodafone has published its interim results - and reported that its third quarter sales rose 14 percent - driven largely by currency fluctuations and rising revenues from India. Sales in the three months ending Dec 31st. were £10.47 billion (US14.9 billion), compared to £9.16 billion (US$13.1 billion) a year ago. Ignoring currency changes caused by a sharply declining UK Sterling and acquisitions, sales would have fallen by 1 percent. more

ZTE Wins USA CDMA Network and Handsets Contract
China's ZTE has won a CDMA network supply contract from prepay network operator, Smart PCS. ZTE USAÃ's All-IP CDMA 2000 EVDO switching equipment and base stations are being used to construct the networks in the initial markets the carrier will serve, which include northwest Georgia and Tennessee, as well as future markets to which the carrier will expand. more

Orange Romania says that it is rolling out a new type of packaging for its Orange prepay top-up packs. The near-term importance of new embedded-3G and embedded-WiMAX notebooks has been significantly over-estimated, according to a new research report published by Disruptive Analysis. Even in three year's time, laptops with built-in wireless access will only be used by 30% of total, active mobile broadband subscribers globally. Vodafone Australia has launched a prepay top-up option using PayPal's mobile payment platform. Vodafone prepaid customers simply register for a PayPal account online and select from either direct debit or credit card payment. Once the PayPal account is activated, customers can recharge their Vodafone Prepaid Cap or Extras Pack directly from their mobile phone via the Vodafone live! mobile content portal. more
