Polish Network to Expand Data Capacity
Poland's Polska Telefonia Cyfrowa (Era) has awarded a contract to Nokia Siemens Networks to increase the network data carrying capacity. Under an annex to the frame contract, Nokia Siemens Networks will deliver its Flexi Base Station as well as provide PTC with the NetAct network management and service management solution for maximizing network performance along with implementation and maintenance services. more

Europe's Top Ten Networks - All Now Over 20m Customers
In Issue 98 of the Mobile World Briefing, when last reviewing the European market, we suggested that "if the normal seasonal pattern is repeated in Q4, then the final period of the year should see something between 25-30m new connections, enough to take penetration up to 110%". We mention this, because the normal seasonal pattern was repeated, we did see 25m new connections across the region and penetration is now standing at exactly 110%. more

Who are the Top 20 European Network Operators?
The European mobile market is gradually becoming more democratic, with virtually every market seeing penetration levels of 100% or more. In this environment, there are few changes and the list of the largest operators reflects this. Only one company has entered this list over the last quarter and, in all, there have only been two changes in position. T-Mobile Germany has overtaken Turkcell, to regain the second spot in Europe, behind TIM of Italy, while polkomtel of Poland has nudged its compatriot PTC out of the top 20, by a margin of less than 0.25m. more

Mobile penetration in Poland progressed from 76% to 95% during 2006, as annual net additions reached a record 7.33m, helped by an all-time quarterly record of 2.32m in Q3 2006. Average quarterly growth has been falling slightly for the last two years, from 7.3% in 2004 to 6.0% in 2005 to 5.8% in 2006, bringing rolling annual customer growth to its lowest level ever of 25.1% for the full year 2006. more
