10 Years Since the Fomation of the Bluetooth Standard
Bluetooth technology, the global standard for short range wireless communications, turns 10-years-old this week. While the idea of Bluetooth technology was born over a decade ago, the first products didn't appear commercially until the year 2000. In that short time -- a span of eight years -- 1.5 billion Bluetooth enabled devices have been shipped, and the organization behind the technology, the Bluetooth Special Interest Group, has grown from a handful of companies to 10,000 members. more

Bluetooth-enabled Equipment Shipments to Hit 800 million this Year
IMS Research has tracked the market for Bluetooth technology since its inception, and has recently published the eighth edition of its annual Bluetooth technology report. In this new report, IMS continues to forecast healthy growth. However, caution should be exercised over the ultimate attach rates of Bluetooth technology in the total cellular handset market. As cellular handsets become more prevalent in less affluent markets, there is a growing demand for low-cost handsets that have only basic functionality. In this particular segment, it is probable that many handsets will not be enabled by Bluetooth technology, and hence the ultimate attach rate of 90% of all handsets globally, which suppliers initially anticipated, is unlikely to be attained. more

Apples iPhone Could Have Massive Profit Margins
Each Apple iPhone sold will generate nearly a 50 percent gross margin for Apple and partner Cingular Wireless, giving the companies a hefty profit, as well as plenty of room for future price cuts, according to a preliminary functional Bill of Materials (BoM) estimate created by iSuppli. more

Bluetooth Market to Exceed 500 Million Radios in 2006
After an explosive year of growth in 2005 that has seen the Bluetooth market more than double, 2006 looks set to provide another healthy year of profits for Bluetooth vendors. In its new study, ABI Research concludes that the market for Bluetooth radios will grow by 71% to a level just over 500 million radio shipments in 2006. Stuart Carlaw, Principal Analyst, Wireless Connectivity, notes, "This growth will be attributed to extremely robust attach rate gains in the cellular handset market as well as a continuation of the explosive growth in the headset market." more
