Telefonica expands in Mexico

Telefonica Moviles has signed a widely expected agreement to acquire 65% of the Mexican wireless operator Pegaso PCS from Sprint Corp, Leap Wireless and other non-Mexican financial investors, for US$87 million in cash. The total value of Pegaso PCS has been set at US$1.36 billion, or about US$1,800 per subscriber. It is worth noting that both Telcel and Iusacell trade are valued at about US$600 per subscriber, so the deal is a significant premium on the Mexican market. Grupo Pegaso of Mexico will maintain its 35% in Pegaso PCS, remaining as a strategic partner among its shareholders. The agreement is subject to permission has been received from the Mexican authorities. more
