Chilean Operator Orders Korean Handsets
South Korea's pantech Group says that it has signed an agreement with the Chilean network operator, Claro for the supply of its PG-1410 and PG-3210 GSM handsets to the Chilean market. The agreement with Claro is the latest stage in the expansion of pantech's operations in Latin America, which has seen the company announce a series of deals with major mobile operators during the last year. Claro - the Chilean affiliate of America Movil, the largest mobile carrier in Latin America - has recently changed its name from Smartcom in line with the transition of its wireless services from CDMA to GSM. more

US Cell Phone Users Asian-Grade M-Commerce Services
Many U.S. cell phone users want the same advanced mobile commerce services and biometric fingerprint protection that are available to cell phone users in Asia, a new AuthenTec survey found. The online survey of nearly 500 U.S. cell phone users, which was sponsored by AuthenTec, found that 58% of those surveyed would purchase a phone with the m-commerce, wireless banking and biometric security features similar to those available in Asia, and 47% would consider switching service providers to obtain the services. Nearly one-third would pay an additional US$20-50 more for their new featured phone, according to the survey. more

Pantech Signs Vietnamese Handset Contract
The South Korean handset manufacturer, pantech has signed an agreement to supply GSM handsets to Glory Star, the second largest cell phone retailer in Vietnam.
