Telenor has shuffled its management, and is moving Mr. Anders Jensen from running its part-owned Bangladeshi subsidiary, Grameenphone to take over at Hungary's pannon from the beginning of April. He will succeed Mr. Ove Fredheim, who is leaving to take up another posting within the Telenor Group in Norway. more

Pannon Using Geothermal Heating for its New HQ Building
Hungary based mobile operator, pannon has installed an environmentally friendly heating system in its new head office - using heat from deep underground. The heating/cooling system will make use of 180 geothermic heat probes drilled 100 meters deep to provide cold and hot water regulating temperature in the building. This is reported to be the seventh largest project of its kind in Europe. more

Hungary's telecoms regulator NHH has reported customer numbers for September 2007, which reveal that the total market grew to just under 10.50m customers on a registered basis, and 9.65m on an active basis. Penetration stood at 97% at the end of Q3. Over 190k new customers were connected in the third quarter, with September's figure of 79k net additions the highest of the calendar year so far. more

Ericsson Wins Hungarian Nework Expansion Contract
Ericsson has been awarded a contract by Telenor-affiliated Hungarian operator, pannon for the expansion of its mobile network, including deployment, integration and support services.
pannon, which has more than 3 million subscribers, is Hungary's second-largest mobile operator. It recently reached an agreement with Ericsson to expand its WCDMA radio network, and deploy and integrate mobile broadband services using HSPA (High-Speed Packet Access) technology.
With this contract, Ericsson maintains its position as sole supplier of pannon's 3G radio access network and will support the operator in its continuing evolution towards advanced HSPA-based services.
As part of this new, two-year agreement, Ericsson will provide turnkey rollout of the new network, including supporting services." more

Telenor is in the process of transforming itself into one of the giants of the mobile industry. It's third quarter results show another strong operating performance and this has led to an even stronger rise in profitability. Specifically, revenues rose 5.7% quarter on quarter and by a massive 35% year on year. When combined with improved margins at both the EBITDA and Operating Profit levels, the result is a 4% rise in operating cash flow, quarter on quarter, and a 23% increase in operating profit. more
