Nortel's bankruptcy filing enables radical change, and not just at Nortel
Opinion piece by Dana Cooperson and Matt Walker, analysts at ovum
On 14 January 2009, Nortel Networks moved beyond talk of divestiture and
speculation of bankruptcy, and filed for creditor protection in Canada and the
US, with Nortel UK entering administration separately under a filing managed by
Ernst & Young. The company reached this point after multiple management

The case for network sharing gets stronger
Opinion piece by Emeka Obiodu, senior analyst at ovum
With a mature market, declining voice revenues and now the economic
downturn, the argument for European mobile network operators (MNOs) to share

Opinion by Steven Hartley, senior analyst at ovum
With all the excitement surrounding LTE, it is easy to overlook how the

Broadband remains a 'sticky' service
Opinion by Michael Philpott, principal analyst at ovum
One possible scenario for the telecoms industry during the current economic
slowdown is that fixed-to-mobile substitution (FMS) will be accelerated as
consumers reduce their communications bill by cutting their fixed line in favour
of mobile services. With mobile broadband deals now more readily available and
affordable, there is a potential ‘double whammyÃ' to this in that fixed line
operators could not only lose further fixed voice revenues but valuable
broadband revenues as well. ovum therefore commissioned a survey of over 8,000
consumers to find out their plans.
