First SIMpass-enabled mobile phone launched in China
China Unicom has launched a mobile phone based payment service in the city of Chongqing which enables users to use their phone to pay for transport tickets and at various retailer for normal purchases. The 'Cqpass' is a multi-system mobile payment service first to use the SIMpass enabled custom-made mobile phone that was unveiled in Chongqing last month. more

40 Days and Nights to Update 8 Million SIM Cards
Gemalto says that it has completed a project, which updated nearly 8 million SIM cards belonging to subscribers of Thailand's Advanced Info Service (AIS). By updating the cards over the air, there was no need for the operator to mail out replacement cards or ask customers to come into an AIS point of sale. The entire campaign, which otherwise would have taken many months, was completed in less than 40 days.
The ota campaign was rolled out on the back of a decision from the National Telecommunication Commission (NTC) in Thailand to shift from a 9-digit, to a 10-digit dialing system so as to meet the telecommunications needs of the country for the next 30 years. more

Roamware Launches Updated Roaming Software
Roamware says that it has released a new version of its roaming traffic redirection software. Roamware's TR 6.0 solution enables real-time steering of outbound roaming traffic to preferred roaming networks in the visited locations. TR 6.0 does this by steering customers to networks that support the services to which the roamer has subscribed, including CAMEL (prepaid roaming), GPRS, MMS and the virtual home environment. more

Gemalto Wins 3G-Ready, Over-The-Air Platform Project From China Mobile"
Gemalto has announced today that its Chinese joint venture, SAIT (Shanghai Axalto IC Card Technology), has been selected to deploy a service delivery platform for Guangdong Mobile, the largest subsidiary of China Mobile. This project is the first 3G-ready SIM service platform to be deployed in China and is fully compatible with all foreseen 3G-network technologies, in particular the Chinese-developed TD-SCDMA technology. more
