Motorola Completes TD-LTE Trials in China
Motorola has announced the successful completion of its joint Over-the-Air
(ota) trial with Chinese operators as part of the collaborative Time Division
Duplex Long-Term Evolution (TD-LTE) commercialization. All trial results have
been submitted to the LTE/System Architecture Evolution (SAE) Trial Initiative (LSTI).
In addition to the collaborative trials with operators, Motorola is engaged with
the TD-LTE trials initiated by China's Ministry of Industry and Information
Technology (MIIT) as part of its efforts to develop a globally competitive TD-LTE
industry. Motorola's Wireless Broadband Access Solutions (WBAS) Hangzhou team
and Wideband Base Transceiver Systems (WBTS) China team have been working with
Chinese operators for many years and can provide insights on local needs.

Verizon Wireless Selects Gemalto to Provide OTA and UICC for LTE Network
Gemalto has won a contract from Verizon Wireless to provide an over-the-air (ota) platform and LTE Universal Integrated Circuit Card (UICC) for the operator's LTE network upgrade. The UICC will be used inside mobile devices to manage subscriber information exchange – such as transferring contacts and preferences from one device to another – while providing secure access to Verizon Wireless' LTE network. more

First SIMpass-enabled mobile phone launched in China
China Unicom has launched a mobile phone based payment service in the city of Chongqing which enables users to use their phone to pay for transport tickets and at various retailer for normal purchases. BART Riders Embrace Paying with Mobile Phones – NFC Trial a Success
Earlier this year a select group of San Francisco Bay Area Rapid Transit District (BART) riders took part in a first-in-the-nation trial to pay for their fares and food, receive discounts and check account balances using just their new mobile phone containing a contactless chip that enables transactions without a traditional plastic card. BART, First Data and ViVOtech has published the results of the trial conducted in the San Francisco area from Jan. 28 to May 30, 2008, which demonstrate high use when both transit fare and retail payments are combined in the same phone. more
