Consumer Weakness Drives Negative Outlook for Semiconductors in 2009
Debt ratings agency, Fitch says that its 2009 Rating Outlook for the semiconductor industry is negative due to a meaningfully weaker macroeconomic environment, resulting in lower revenues for all semiconductor markets and, in particular, PCs and mobile handsets, which represent nearly 60% of global semiconductor consumption. While the overall market will be lower, Fitch expects developing economies will experience lower albeit still positive unit growth. more

ReCellular Expands Wholesale Mobile Phone Auction Platform
Mobile phone recycling firm, ReCellular says that it is launching an expanded Web-based auction platform for wholesale customers. Every month, ReCellular's AcCELLerate auction offers an average of 250,000 second-hand handsets, and the auction will now be expanded with offerings from ReCellular's industry partners, including wireless carriers and original equipment manufacturers, which could add another 250,000 additional handsets per month. more

India's Semiconductor Consumption will More than Double
The total electronic equipment production in India will reach US $32 billion in 2011, compared to US $14 billion in 2006, a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 18 percent, according to Gartner. Semiconductor consumption in India will more than double from US $2.8 billion in 2006 to US $7.2 billion in 2011. The growth in electronic equipment production is being bolstered by the rapidly growing demand for electronics equipments in India. more

Andrew Corp. has reported record total sales of US$599 million for its fourth quarter ended September 30, 2006, an increase of 16% compared to US$518 million in the prior year quarter. In the fourth quarter 2006, wireless infrastructure sales increased 16% versus the prior year quarter due mainly to growth for products supporting global wireless network upgrades and expansion and the inclusion of $23.7 million of sales from the acquisition of Precision Antennas in April 2006. Worldwide Mobile Phone Sales Grew 18% in Q2 2006
Worldwide mobile phone sales totaled 229 million units in the second quarter of 2006, a 18.3 percent increase from the same period last year, according to Gartner. This compared to a 23.8% increase in the first quarter. Gartner said it had expected the slight slowdown compared to quarter one and that its mobile phone sales forecast is still on track to reach 960 million units in 2006, with 238 million units in the third quarter of 2006. more
