Canada's Newest Mobile Network, Globalive Not Sufficiently Canadian

­The controversy over the ownership of Canada's newest mobile network operator, Globalive Wireless has heated up after the Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission announced that it feels that Globalive does not meet the Canadian ownership requirements set out in the Telecommunications Act. Under the legislation, a telecommunications company is only eligible to operate in Canada if it is not at any time owned and controlled, in law and in fact, by non-Canadians.  more

Algerie Telecom to Spend $6 Billion on Upgrades by 2014

­Algeria's state-owned Algerie Telecom has outlined plans to spend US$6 billion over the next few years upgrading both its landline and mobile networks. Plans to privatise the company were put on hold last year pending the upgrades.  more

Orascom Telecom Loses Interest in French 3G License

Motorola to Manage Zain's Iraqi Network

­Motorola has announced the signing of a multi-million dollar contract with Zain Iraq to provide managed services to the operator. The contract commences immediately and will run for three years. Under the managed services contract, Motorola has been entrusted to improve Zain Iraq's network performance, operate and maintain it as well as provide training to its technical support team.  more

Pakistan's Mobilink Debt Ratings Downgraded

­Moody's Investors Service has downgraded Pakistan Mobilink Communications (Mobilink) B1 local currency corporate family rating to B2; at the same time Mobilink's B3 senior unsecured bond rating has been downgraded to Caa1; the outlook on both ratings is negative.  more
