Sixth Network to Launch in Uganda

­Uganda's sixth mobile network is expecting to launch its network tomorrow (Tuesday) with coverage in 38 towns, reports Bloomberg News. The company, I-Tel has plans to invest US$150 million over the next three years expanding its network.  more

Jordan Announces Delayed 3G License Tender

Jordan's telecoms regulator, the TRC has published the tender document for its 3G licenses. The regulator has set a reserve price of JOD25 million (US$35.5 million) per block of 5+5 Mhz spectrum. Bidders will also be able to bid for an optional block of GSM spectrum, enabling any new entrant to provide both 2G and 3G services.  more

Kenya to Scrap Foreign Investor Rules

The Kenyan government has announced plans to scrap a law which had required foreign firms to have local partners if investing in the telecoms industry. Under the current system, any investor has to allocate at least twenty percent of the company to a local partner, which has caused legal problems in the past.  more
