A gang of telecoms companies have jointly defined the preferred way to ensure the smooth introduction and delivery of voice and SMS services on Long Term Evolution (LTE) networks worldwide. O2's exclusivity agreement with Apple in the UK for the iPhone is coming to an
end, as the device is to be available on both orange and Vodafone. O2 and the UK's
two non-iPhone mobile network operators will undoubtedly need to find a
response. However, the shift in Apple's strategy highlighted by the
announcement means that other markets are likely to follow suit.

Spanish Regulator Approves Lower Mobile Termination Rates
Spain's telecoms regulator, the Commission for the Telecommunications Market (CMT) has approved cuts of between 40% for Telefónica Móviles, Vodafone and orange and 50% for Xfera for their mobile termination rates. more

Virgin Mobile Tops UK Mobile Broadband Tests

Contract Awarded for Spanish Mobile Number Portability
The Spanish mobile operators are reported to have awarded a contract to local form, Indra to manage their mobile number portability platform from February 2010. The contract is worth €4.7 million over a three year period. more

EU calls on mobile operators to continue to improve child safety policies
Half of 10 year-old, 87% of 13 year-old and 95% of 16 year-old children in the EU have a mobile phone, but half of European parents worry mobile phone use might expose their children to sexually and violently explicit images (51%) or bullying by other children (49%), according to a survey. The European Commission has now called on mobile operators to do more to keep children safe while using mobile phones by putting in place all the measures in the voluntary code of conduct, signed by 26 mobile operators in 2007. more

Vodafone Found to Offer UK's Lowest Roaming Data Download Charges
A study carried out by price comparison website, Broadband-Expert, has revealed massive discrepancies between the UK's top 5 mobile broadband providers for data usage abroad. orange was the most expensive, charging £3.94 per Mb inside the EU and £6.32 per Mb outside the EU. Vodafone were found to be the cheapest provider, charging £9.99 for a day's use of up to at 50Mb inside the EU (which equates to 20p per Mb). more
