EU calls on mobile operators to continue to improve child safety policies

Half of 10 year-old, 87% of 13 year-old and 95% of 16 year-old children in the EU have a mobile phone, but half of European parents worry mobile phone use might expose their children to sexually and violently explicit images (51%) or bullying by other children (49%), according to a survey. The European Commission has now called on mobile operators to do more to keep children safe while using mobile phones by putting in place all the measures in the voluntary code of conduct, signed by 26 mobile operators in 2007.  more

High Use of Mobile Phones at Home for Mobile Internet Browsing

orange has published the results of a survey commissioned to reveal the role of mobile media usage within the broader media landscape. The report, Exposure 2 consists of independent qualitative and quantitative research, following a survey of more than 2,000 mobile media users from across all UK mobile networks. The survey focuses on consumer consumption of mobile media, and attitudes towards it when used as a marketing channel - particularly in comparison to other traditional and digital media.  more

UK Operators Drop Processing Fees for Charity Premium Text Messages

The UK's main mobile network operators, 3, O2, orange, T-Mobile, Virgin and Vodafone have jointly agreed to waive their processing charges for premium SMS messages - when used by the Red Nose Day charity appeal.  more

Partner Communications Revenues/Profits Up - Warns on Outlook

Israeli operator, Partner (which trades under the orange brandname) has reported a rise in full-year revenues for 2008 of 3.5% to NIS 6,329.5 million (US$1,664.8 million). Net income reached NIS 1,051,479 (US$276.6 million), a rise of 11.9% on 2007.  more

Californian Girl Sent Over 14,500 Text Messages in December

A 13-year old girl in California sent 484 text messages every day in December - an average of one message every 2 minutes during the waking hours. The father, Greg Hardesty told the New York Post his 440-page mobile phone bill revealed his daughter Reina had sent an astonishing 14,528 text messages.  more

Sagem Orga Develops NFC Enabled SIM Card for Orange

Smart card vendor, Sagem Orga has announced the availability of an NFC Single Wire Protocol enabled SIM card, developed in co-operation with orange. The firm said that the SIM card has been customized for orange specific needs.  more
