O2's exclusivity agreement with Apple in the UK for the iPhone is coming to an
end, as the device is to be available on both orange and Vodafone. O2 and the UK's
two non-iPhone mobile network operators will undoubtedly need to find a
response. However, the shift in Apple's strategy highlighted by the
announcement means that other markets are likely to follow suit.

Total wireless subscribers in France to reach 65.9 million in 2013
orange France is predicted to increase not only its market share in its home market, but also its monthly ARPU levels over the next few years. Canada based IE Market Research Corp. (IEMR) is also expecting that SFR will see its subscriber market share decline from 34.2% in 2008 to 33.9% in 2013, while Bouygues Telecom's share of subscribers will remain stable over the next several years at approximately 16.6%. more

Scailex Submits Bid to Buy Israel's Partner Communications
Israeli handset distributor, Scailex Corp. has made a binding offer to buy a majority stake in local mobile network operator, Partner. The 51% stake is currently owned by Hutchison Telecommunications who have previously said they are looking to sell the company. more

Spanish Regulator Approves Lower Mobile Termination Rates
Spain's telecoms regulator, the Commission for the Telecommunications Market (CMT) has approved cuts of between 40% for Telefónica Móviles, Vodafone and orange and 50% for Xfera for their mobile termination rates. more
