"Gigabyte-ready" network pricing could boost mobile broadband growth
The widespread deployment of HSPA has increased the speed and data capacity of 3G networks dramatically, removing technology barriers of launching true mass market mobile broadband. But simply upgrading to HSPA technology is not sufficient if operators are also to profit from new & faster mobile data services. The mobile network sourcing consultants of Rewheel believe that MNOs and network vendors must develop new equipment pricing schemes minimizing the operators' risk of losing money on exhorbitant capacity upgrade costs while still maintaining healthy margins for the vendors. more

Wireless Backhaul to Go Next-Generation by 2012
Based on IDC's research of the Asia/Pacific (including Japan) carrier network equipment market, IDC predicts that there will be over 3 million basestations and over 1.8 million cell sites in by 2012, representing a growth of 24.3% and 10.7% respectively from 2008. Approximately half of these sites will be connected to fiber through Carrier Ethernet. Urban 3G/High-Speed Packet Access (HSPA) basestations will be linked to fiber by 2011 in most markets in the region. more
