Openwave claims 400 million WAP browser sales

The WAP browser software developer, Openwave Systems has announced the shipment of the 400 millionth handset using its WAP browser. The company also noted growth in its worldwide browser market share and surprising strength in messaging client and third-generation WAP2 product upgrades. Openwave also expanded its customer base in Asia, adding seven new phone software customers in that market and bringing its total to 47 manufacturers worldwide. According to independent third party research firm CMS, in the most recent quarter Openwave also increased its total worldwide unit volume share in the browser category from 50% to 51%. more

Vodacom orders MMS solution

Siemens and Openwave Systems have said that they have been selected by the South Africa based Vodacom to install Openwave's MMS and integrate with the operator's GSM and GPRS mobile network. Through Siemens, Vodacom has licensed Openwave's full range MMS solution components, including the MMSC (Multimedia Messaging Service Center) relay, message storage, directory, and gateway. Siemens as main contractor is responsible for the overall project management as well as the integration of the MMS Solution into Vodacom's network. more
