Android based Netbooks to Emerge in 2009

Upwards view: Linux is losing ground
The upwards view of netbooks starts with netbooks and looks up to laptops. It
leads to two conclusions. First, the laptop market is becoming increasingly
complex, with market segments catered for by a growing variety of low-cost
netbooks and laptops. Second, after a strong start, Linux netbooks have now been
overtaken by Windows netbooks and Linux is lagging increasingly behind in terms
of sales - although Linux's performance in the netbook segment is still
outstanding compared to its overall performance in the desktop market.

Open Source OS Assists Chinese Development of the Smart Phone Market
A report from Chinese research firm, CCID Consulting shows that the sales volume of smart phones in China's market in the first half of 2008 reached 15.671 million sets, up 32.1% over H1 2007, and the sales revenue reached 37.74 billion Yuan, up 25.7% over H1 2007. more

Nokia Buys Software House, Trolltech
Nokia has announced that it is buying mobile applications developer, Trolltech for US$153 million. Trolltech specializes in creating development platforms which mobile application developers can use to write their software programs. The company also developed an application platform and UI for Linux-based mobile phones, which has recently been ported to also work on Windows Mobile and CE based devices. more
