Four New Members for WiMAX Patents Group
WiMAX patent pooling group, the Open Patent Alliance (OPA) has announced four new members - Beceem Communications, GCT Semiconductor, Sequans Communications and UQ Communications. Formed in June 2008, the OPA is dedicated to offering intellectual property rights (IPR) solutions that support the development and adoption of WiMAX services. more

Alvarion and Huawei Join WiMAX Patents Group
Alvarion and Huawei have joined the Open Patent Alliance (OPA) - which manages the WiMAX patent pool. Alvarion and Huawei join current OPA members Alcatel-Lucent, Cisco, Clearwire, Intel, and Samsung Electronics. As a result, it is expected that licensing terms for patents pertaining to WiMAX, including the associated royalty rates will be more predictable, transparent, and at lower cost. Furthermore the WiMAX patent pool may act as a "one stop shop" where companies building WiMAX solutions can obtain use of the patents more simply, efficiently and cost effectively, under a more competitive royalty structure that charges only for the features required to develop WiMAX products. more

Intel and the WiMAX Forum Working on Affordable WiMAX Devices for India
At a recent conference, Sriram Viswanathan, Intel vice president and general manager of the WiMAX Program Office, announced that the company is working with Indian service providers and device manufacturers to help bring WiMAX-ready notebooks and netbooks to the India market segment mid-2009. Additional information on specific OEM systems and devices will be announced in the coming months. more
