Open Mobile Terminal Group Gets a Bit More Open
The Open Mobile Terminal Platform (OMTP) says that it has opened its product profile conformance process to everyone who is interested. Previously, only paid up members of the group could access the test cases. From now on, any organisation can check its products (including applications) against OMTP requirements and make declarations of compliance. This means that application developers and any vendor of devices or service platforms can demonstrate their compliance with the corresponding requirements from the operator community. more

Operators Want More Secure Handsets
The operator led forum, the Open Mobile Terminal Platform (OMTP) says that the mobile community will be placing mobile security and the protection of the customer high upon its 2007 agenda as the volume of smartphone devices increases and they become a bigger target for the writers of malicious software. Following 18 months of detailed work within OMTP including an extensive usability study, the OMTP has issued its Application Security Framework which details the way in which the phone can restrict applications from accessing those functions which might be abused by malicious software. more
