Libyan Airlines to Enable In-Flight Mobile Phone Calls

­In-flight mobile phone communications vendor, onair has announced that Libyan Airlines is to become one of the first African airlines to support mobile phone calls during flights. Mobile onair equipment will be installed Libyan Airlines' brand new fleet of seven Airbus A320 aircraft flying routes across Europe and the Middle East. Ryanair Offers In-Flight Phone Calls

European low-cost airline, Ryanair has launched an in-flight mobile phone service initially onboard 20 of its, mainly Ireland based aircraft. This is the first step in fitting Ryanair's entire fleet of over 170 aircraft to allow all passengers to make and receive mobile calls and texts on all Ryanair flights.  more

British Airways to Allow Mobile Phones on Business Flights

UK based airline, British Airways has announced plans to allow the use of mobile phones on one of its routes from London to New York. In addition to normal mobile phone use, internet access will also be possible from laptops fitted with GSM data cards. onair is providing the in-plane equipment to launch the service.  more

UK Airline Tests SMS Service on London-Moscow Flights

UK based airline, BMI has announced that it is to start trials of in-flight text messaging from mobile phones on flights between London and Moscow. The service, which is being supplied by onair, is being trialled for six months on a single Airbus A320 aircraft operating between Heathrow and Moscow.  more

Brazilian Airline to Trail In-Flight Mobile Phone Service

Brazilian airline, TAM Airlines is to be the first airline in the Americas to offer onboard mobile phone service on its Airbus A320s, with the equipment to be provided by onair. The system is expected to begin working in the second half of 2009.  more

Business Jets to Get In-Flight Mobile Phone Service

In-flight mobile phone service provider, onair and business jet company, Aviation Center Cologne (ACC) have reached an agreement for the provision of communication services to the business jet market. Chinese Airline to Allow Mobile Phone calls During Flights

China's Shenzhen Airlines has announced plans to allow mobile phone calls during flights after it signed an agreement with onair to fit its planes with the necessary hardware to allow phone calls safely. The onair service will be installed across Shenzhen Airlines' full fleet of Boeing 737 and Airbus A320-family aircraft by mid 2009, with the introduction of three demonstrator aircraft being targeted for the Beijing Olympic Games in August 2008.  more
