China's CCID Consulting says the revolutionary application of backlighting in mobile phones has encountered difficulties in China. With the rise of mobile phone production centers in China, the transfer of the world mobile phone industry to the Chinese inland and the imminent commercialization of 3G in China, mobile phone production by local registered companies and joint ventures added up to over 442 million handsets in 2006. Over 95% of those phones had full-color screens. In the meantime, full-color mobile phones moved towards bigger screens and higher resolutions. more

South Korea's Pantech Group has announced the launch of the IM-R200 handset, it's latest dual-LCD sliding phone equipped with an oled touch-sensitive screen. Separated from its main LCD display, the new phone does away with the standard keypad in favor of a brand-new LCD-typed keypad. When sliding up, the virtual keypad shows up on the LCD that is touch-sensitive, allowing users to dial numbers and view contacts with a stroke of a finger. more
