What would have been the first major consolidation between two social
networking giants has failed to materialise, as FacebookÃ's attempts to woo
Twitter with an all-stock offer fell on deaf ears. FacebookÃ's valuation seems
to have been the sticking point. But with neither company as yet able to
demonstrate that it can make money on a scale that matches its number of users,
the outcome might not be a bad thing.

Nokia getting on top of handset media portability

Nokia has greatly extended the range of its multimedia codec support in the
fifth edition of its S60 platform for Symbian OS, in an effort to overcome the
problems of multimedia portability arising from codec proliferation. An
important addition to the core is MicrosoftÃ's Windows Media Audio (WMA)
format, which largely completes NokiaÃ's audio codec support. However, some
gaps still remain, notably the DivX Internet video codec and the popular, and
free, Ogg family.
