Virgin Mobile Tops UK Mobile Broadband Tests

The results are now available for the first Mobile Broadband Genie Road Trip Awards. The exercise directly pitted dongles provided by six of the UK's mobile broadband suppliers (o2, Orange, 3, T-mobile, Virgin Media and Vodafone) against each other on a 350-mile rail journey over two days.  more

Vodafone Found to Offer UK's Lowest Roaming Data Download Charges

A study carried out by price comparison website, Broadband-Expert, has revealed massive discrepancies between the UK's top 5 mobile broadband providers for data usage abroad. Orange was the most expensive, charging £3.94 per Mb inside the EU and £6.32 per Mb outside the EU. Vodafone were found to be the cheapest provider, charging £9.99 for a day's use of up to at 50Mb inside the EU (which equates to 20p per Mb).  more

O2 Expecting New iPhone Model within Months

The UK operator, o2 is reported to be planning to cut the retail price of Apple's iPhone in preparation for the launch of a replacement model in June or July. The UK trade magazine, Mobile Today reported that the operator will drop the price of the 16GB 3G iPhone to free on its cheaper tariffs to clear stocks.  more

O2, Vodafone Reported to be in Network Sharing Talks

UK operators, o2 and Vodafone are reported to be in advanced talks regarding sharing their network infrastructure. Citing people close to the talks, the Financial Times that a deal "could provide them with significant savings in capital and operating spending". Vodafone's CEO, Vittorio Collao is currently seeking annual cost savings of £1bn by 2010-11 to bring the UK divisions' operating margins up to the average compared to its other country networks.  more

UK Operators Drop Processing Fees for Charity Premium Text Messages

UK Operators Facing Further Cuts in Mobile Termination Rates

The UK's Competition Commission has ruled that the mobile operators should lower their landline to mobile termination rates by around 20% by 2010/11 - and to a rate which is lower than was proposed by the telecoms regulator, Ofcom.  more
