O2 Germany Offers Demographic Targetting for Mobile Adverts

O2 Germany says that it is expanding its mobile advertising services to enable target group specific placement of advertising messages to boost conversion rates. Based on the anonymised classification into gender, age, residence, fields of interest and type of mobile phone user messages are adapted to target groups to ensure that no one receives unwanted advertisements. As a result, ads are only distributed to customers who have explicitly agreed to receive messages.  more

Ericsson Wins IMS Contract with O2 Germany

Ericsson has been selected to provide Telefónica O2 Germany with an IMS core system with an IMS-based VoIP application server. These two contracts include hardware deployment and software systems integration services. Ericsson will also integrate in Germany O2's VoIP application server using IMS, making services such as IP Centrex, business trunking or presence functionality available to all fixed and mobile users.  more

New CEO Named for O2 Germany

Telefonica has shaken up the management at its German O2 subsidiary, moving the current CEO, Jaime Smith Basterra over to the parent company as Director of Affiliates and Industrial Alliances. He is to be replaced by former Vodafone exec, Rene Schuster who is coming in from outside the company.  more

O2 Germany to Upgrade Network to Support 28Mbps Data Download Speeds

Telefónica O2 Germany has announced plans to upgrade its network to HSPA+, and start offering peak download speeds of up to 28Mbps in the second half of this year. The network upgrade will initially occur in Munich - where O2 has its headquarters. more

O2 Germany Aquires 80 Retail Outlets from Competitor

Telefónica O2 Germany has announced that it is taking over 80 shops in Germany from competitor freenet AG. Currently, the Munich-based company operates 725 shops across Germany and plans the expansion to 1,100 locations in the medium term.  more

Europe's Top Ten Networks - All Now Over 20m Customers

In Issue 98 of the Mobile World Briefing, when last reviewing the European market, we suggested that "if the normal seasonal pattern is repeated in Q4, then the final period of the year should see something between 25-30m new connections, enough to take penetration up to 110%". We mention this, because the normal seasonal pattern was repeated, we did see 25m new connections across the region and penetration is now standing at exactly 110%.  more

Telefonica O2: Board Chairman Basterra Resigns

LONDON -(Dow Jones)- Telefonica said Friday that Jaime Smith Basterra has resigned from the position of Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Company. This planned step will be followed by Mr. Jaime Smith Basterra's transfer to the Supervisory Board of the Company to replace Mr. Peter Erskine.  more

Peter Erskine to Step Down as Telefonica O2 Europe Boss

The boss of O2, Peter Erskine is to step down as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the company with effect from 31 January 2008. He retains his position on the Board of Telefónica, moving to the role of Non-Executive Director from 1 February 2008. No reason was given for the decision.  more

German Court Lifts Mobile Market Fee Regulation
