Taiwanese OEMs Switching from Ericsson to Qualcomm for 3G Phones
Taiwan's handset manufacturers are increasingly switching from the Ericsson mobile phone platform to Qualcomm's own handset platform - report local industry sources. Sources told DigiTimes that because HTC has had good success with its Qualcomm-based 3G handsets, other major handset vendors such as Motorola, LG Electronics, Hewlett-Packard (HP) and Palm all intend to adopt the Qualcomm platform for their 3G products. more

STMicroelectronics and NXP Merge their Wireless Businesses
nxp Semiconductor and STMicroelectronics have announced plans to combine their wireless operations to form a joint-venture company. The new organization will combine key design, sales and marketing, and back-end manufacturing assets from both companies into a streamlined worldwide joint venture that will rely on its parent companies and foundries for wafer fabrication services. The JV will also integrate the Silicon Laboratories' wireless and GloNav's GPS operations recently acquired by nxp. more
