Taiwanese OEMs Switching from Ericsson to Qualcomm for 3G Phones
Taiwan's handset manufacturers are increasingly switching from the Ericsson mobile phone platform to Qualcomm's own handset platform - report local industry sources. Sources told DigiTimes that because HTC has had good success with its Qualcomm-based 3G handsets, other major handset vendors such as Motorola, LG Electronics, Hewlett-Packard (HP) and Palm all intend to adopt the Qualcomm platform for their 3G products. more

Powered by nxp's Embedded Vector Processor (EVP), a Digital Signal Processing core, the PNX6910 is capable of achieving data transfer rates of 150 Mbits downlink and 50 Mbits uplink, and supports multi-mode LTE/HSPA/UMTS/EDGE/GPRS/GSM capability. more

nxp Semiconductors (formerly part of Philips) says that it has launched a GSM/GPRS-optimized multimedia solution for the Ultra Low-Cost (ULC) segment of the mobile handset market. The PNX4903 delivers a complete system-level operation in a single monolithic IC. The ULC+ multimedia solution enables a music phone with color screen, MP3 playback, removable flash memory card and FM Tuner for a total bill of materials under USD$20. more
