Consumers Embrace Self-Service on Mobile Handsets
A survey commissioned by customer care provider, Nuance Communications finds that over half the respondents (59%) said that mobile handset self-service would be their preferred channel of self-service, compared with only 34 per cent that would choose to deal with a customer service agent and 1 per cent that favour web self-service. more

Nokia Handset Designed for the Blind
Canada's Rogers Wireless has announced the launch of a specially modified Nokia handset which is aimed at customers with vision loss. The Nokia 6682RVI, equipped with Nuance TALKS software from Nuance Communications essentially turns the Nokia 6682RVI handset into a "talking phone" by converting menus, instructions and content displayed on the screen into audio output through its internal speaker, or an optional wired or Bluetooth headset. more

A study has found that a significant number of motorists are taking their eyes off the road to read, or even send SMS messages while driving. Nuance Communications has published the results of a recent survey that assessed the experience and expectations of car owners regarding speech-enabled functions in cars. The survey of nearly 1,000 drivers across Germany, Japan and the United States confirmed that drivers rely heavily on in-vehicle information and communication devices - and they're willing to pay extra for the ease of use and safety benefits offered by speech-enabled applications in cars. more
