First Active Handover Between LTE and CDMA Networks Demonstrated
LG and nortel have demonstrated the world's first 3GPP standards compliant active handover of a data transmission between a LTE network and a CDMA network. Inter-technology handover allowing mobile users the ability to move between LTE and CDMA networks without losing data connectivity means that operators can run these networks concurrently without impacting services. This will help to ensure that users have full network coverage while taking advantage of LTE speeds, wherever initially available. more

Nortel CEO Mike Zafirovski steps down
nortel Networks reported a 25% drop in second-quarter revenues to US$1.97 billion, with declines in all segments and regions and increased by 14 percent from the previous quarter. The company reported a net loss in the second quarter of 2009 of US$274 million, compared to net loss of US$113 million a year ago. more

Nortel Wins Czech GSM-R Expansion Contract
Czech Railways has selected nortel GSM-R technology to provide wireless communications to the 207 km Czech section of the International Railway Corridor IV between Austria and Poland. nortel partner Kapsch CarrierCom will supply and deploy the network. The project began in June 2009 and is scheduled for completion by end of 2009. more
