Shipment of Taiwan's Basic/Feature Phone Industry Exceeds Forecasts

According to research of the Taipei-based Market Intelligence & Consulting Institute (MIC), shipment volumes of the Taiwanese basic/feature phone industry in the first quarter of 2009 has been estimated at 10.21 million units. Even though shipment volume declined sequentially in the first quarter, it was still higher than the 9.42 million units originally forecast.  more

Nokia Siemens Wins Indonesian Network Contract

Indonesian mobile operator Telkomsel has signed a new frame agreement with nokia Siemens Networks to "greatly expand" its existing network coverage, boost capacity and improve performance. The deal between Telkomsel and its long term network and services supplier nokia Siemens Networks, covers the supply, deployment and integration of WCDMA/HSPA radio access networks (RAN) as well as 2G base station sub-system (BSS) and services solutions in the country.  more

Nokia Siemens Networks Wins Chinese Contracts Worth $1.1 Billion

China Mobile and China Unicom have separately signed agreements to purchase 2G and 3G mobile equipments and services from nokia Siemens Networks during 2009. Under the framework agreements nokia Siemens Networks will roll out WCDMA networks for China Unicom in 11 provinces across China. In addition, it will provide China Mobile with TD-SCDMA and GSM networks.  more

Chinese Handset Production Growth Down to Single Figures

China's CCID Consulting has reported that after a period of rapid growth over the past few years, the Chinese mobile handset chips market experienced a conspicuous decline in 2008. The research firm predicts that the scale of Chinese mobile phone chips market is expected to reach RMB 110 billion (US$16 billion), up by 6%, down to single-digit growth for the first time.  more

Taiwan's Basic/Feature Phone Industry Experiences Shipment Decline in 4Q '08

According to a report, Taiwanese basic/feature phone shipment volume is estimated at 17.01 million units in the fourth quarter of 2008, declining 17.9% compared to the previous quarter. ASP (Average Selling Price), however, increased considerably, from US$36 in the third quarter to US$44 in the fourth quarter. A major reason for this development was the shipment of several high-priced EDGE, WCDMA, and CDMA models by Motorola and nokia. Another reason was the fluctuation of the US dollar exchange rate.  more
