nokia has announced that its forthcoming 6730 classic phone, which begins shipping in June will be available exclusively across Vodafone's global footprint. Orange and Vodafone Outsource their UK Network Management

Vodafone to Drop DRM Copy-Protection from Music Store
Vodafone is to drop copying protection, known as DRM from its music stores after signing deals with Universal Music Group, Sony Music Entertainment and EMI Music. The new deals are the first of their kind for a mobile network operator enabling dual delivery of DRM free music to a wide range of mobile phones and PCs with no need to sideload or synchronize. more

IMImobile takes over Music2You service from Nokia Siemens Networks
Mobile services provider, IMImobile announced last month that it had taken control of the Music2You (M2Y) service previously provided by nokia Siemens Networks. Under the M2Y brand, nokia Siemens Networks provided full-track music download and subscription services to telecom operators and media companies, Vodafone in India, AOL in Germany and Akado in Russia. more

The market for Western European converged mobile devices (commonly referred to as smartphones) experienced a good performance in the last quarter of 2008. According to IDC's European Mobile Phone Tracker, vendors shipped 9.3 million units, 25.9% higher than the 7.4 million shipped in 4Q07. Verizon Announces LTE Deployment Plans - Going Live in 2010
Verizon's CTO, Dick Lynch has outlined the company's plans to roll out an LTE upgrade for its wireless network. Lynch announced that Verizon Wireless has selected Ericsson and Alcatel-Lucent as primary network vendors for its initial LTE network deployments. These two vendors are expected to build the underlying infrastructure that will enable Verizon Wireless to become the first wireless company to offer commercial LTE-based service in the United States, starting in 2010. more

Industry to Settle on a Generic Phone Charger for All Mobile Phones
The GSMA and 17 mobile operators and manufacturers have announced that they are committed to implementing a cross-industry standard for a universal charger for new mobile phones. The aim of the initiative, led by the GSMA, is to ensure that the mobile industry adopts a common format for mobile phone charger connections and energy-efficient chargers resulting in an estimated 50 per cent reduction in standby energy consumption and the potential elimination of up to 51,000 tonnes of duplicate chargers. more
