Ericsson maintains leadership among network equipment vendors

­Ericsson continued to strike a fine balance between growth and profitability in 2Q09, continuing its gradual migration to a services led approach to operator accounts. Both Alcatel-Lucent and nokia Siemens also relied more heavily on services in 2Q09, but Ericsson continued to lead the industry in both infrastructure and services revenue, reports Technology Business Research (TBR).  more

Nokia Swings into Quarterly Loss on NSN Write-Down

­nokia has swung into a 3rd quarter loss after it wrote down the value of its nokia Siemens Networks joint-venture. nokia reported a EUR559 million (US$836 million) loss after taking write-downs of EUR1.17 billion (US$1.74 billion) - mostly on a EUR908 million impairment at nokia Siemens Networks - and a 20% drop in sales to EUR9.81 billion (US$14.6 billion).  more

Nokia Quarterly Profits Down by Two-Thirds

nokia has reported a 66% drop in second quarter profits to EUR380 million (US$535 million) as sales of handsets declined in global recession. Sales dropped by a quarter to EUR9.91 billion (US$13.9 billion). nokia continues to expect 2009 industry mobile device volumes to decline approximately 10% from 2008 levels, which accords with the expectation that Sony Ericsson reported in its Q2 results.  more

Indian telecom equipment beats downturn; grows 20% to nearly $25 billion

The Indian telecom equipment industry reported a 20% growth in revenues to comfortably cross the US$24 billion mark during FY 2008-09 compared to a 24% growth recorded in the previous financial year (2007-08). Indian trade magazine, Voice&Data said that the result was not surprising because despite overall economic slowdown, India has been witnessing over 10 million month-on-month new mobile subscriber additions, and telecom operators have been buying equipment to expand their networks.  more

Polish Network to Expand Data Capacity

Poland's Polska Telefonia Cyfrowa (Era) has awarded a contract to nokia Siemens Networks to increase the network data carrying capacity. Under an annex to the frame contract, nokia Siemens Networks will deliver its Flexi Base Station as well as provide PTC with the NetAct network management and service management solution for maximizing network performance along with implementation and maintenance services.  more

Nokia Siemens Networks Opens Global Network Center in India

nokia Siemens Networks has inaugurated the latest of its Global Network Solutions Centers (GNSC), located in Noida, India. The new GNSC is co-located in a new dedicated services facility, and will complement the two company's two existing GNSCs in Lisbon, Portugal and Chennai, India.  more

Nokia Siemens Completes 2nd Phase of China Mobile TD-SCDMA Rollout

nokia Siemens Networks has announced that it is one of first vendors to complete phase two deployment of China Mobile's 3G network, based on TD-SCDMA technology. nokia Siemens Networks has been working with China Mobile subsidiaries Fujian Mobile, Henan Mobile, Jiangxi Mobile and Hainan Mobile to deploy their respective 3G networks.  more
