Nokia and Yahoo Confirm Mobile Internet Services Partnership

After a couple of leaks at the weekend, nokia and Yahoo have confirmed they are to work closer together in mobile web services. As part of the alliance nokia will be the exclusive provider of Yahoo's maps and navigation services, integrating Ovi Maps across Yahoo properties, branded as "powered by Ovi." In addition, Yahoo will become the exclusive provider of nokia's Ovi Mail and Ovi Chat services branded as "Ovi Mail / Ovi Chat powered by Yahoo!"  more

Firefox Browser Launched for Nokia N900 Devices

After a series of preview releases, the Mozilla Foundation has released a formal version of its mobile web browser for nokia's Maemo platform. In a statement, the group said that "key design principles are at the heart of the mobile browsing experience including minimal typing, seamless synchronization with desktop Firefox and the ability to take your Firefox with you, to name a few."  more

Nokia Losing Mobile Internet Traffic Market Share in South Africa

Mobile ad agency, mKhoj has reported that the market share of mobile internet traffic from nokia handsets in South Africa has dropped from 46% in January to 39% last month. Samsung currently holds 33% of the market, and rose from 20% in January. The iPhone made its entrée into the market, but only contributes 0.06% of the total network traffic, making it a relatively small but growing player.  more

iPhone: Not a top 20 handset for browsing and buying on the mobile web

According to statistics released by mobile billing and analytics firm, Bango, when it comes to the most popular phones for browsing and buying content on the mobile web worldwide, the iPhone still sits outside the top 20. The Bango Top 20 handset list, based on Bango's February statistics, puts the nokia 3110c on top, followed by the Samsung M800 in 2nd and the nokia 6300 in 3rd.  more

Opera Reports Over 20 Million Users of its Java Mini Browser

Norwegian web browser developer, Opera says that its Mini mobile browser userbase has reached 20.5 million, representing 160% growth since February 2008. Opera Mini users viewed 7.3 billion pages, a 290% increase over February 2008. Opera Mini servers processed more than 1.2 petabytes of data in February, generating more than 124 million MB of data traffic for mobile operators worldwide. Since February 2008, data transfers have grown 338%.  more
