SK Telecom Announces Winners of Nationwide LTE Network Deployment Contracts

­South Korea's SK Telecom has announced that it has awarded LTE network contracts to Samsung Electronics, LG-Ericsson and Nokia Siemens Networks. The company will begin providing commercial LTE services in Seoul by July this year and plans to expand the service to the Seoul metropolitan area and six other metropolitan cities by 2012. The service will become nationwide by 2013.  more

Bharti Airtel Launches India's Latest 3G Network

­India's Bharti Airtel - now just plain Airtel - has launched its 3G network, with coverage initially in the southern Karnataka state, whose capital is the technology hub of Bangalore. The company expects to offer 3G services in 40 cities by March across all of its 13 licensed areas, and expand the services to 1,500 cities and towns within a year.  more

Nokia Siemens Networks Opens Expanded Indian Network Management Center

­Nokia Siemens Networks has announced the relocation and expansion of its Global Network Solutions Center (GNSC) to a new site in Chennai, India. Since its launch in 2007, the Chennai GNSC has witnessed tremendous growth. This includes a ten-fold increase in the number of subscribers it supports on behalf of operators around the world to 77 million. In addition the center now remotely manages over 87,000 base station sites, 14 times the number when it opened four years ago.  more

Nokia Siemens Networks Wins LTE Contract From Rural USA Network

­Nokia Siemens Networks says that it has won an LTE supply contract from USA based rural mobile network operator, Mosaic Telecom covering its existing 700 MHz and 1700/2100 MHz bands. Mosaic will also improve indoor coverage for its 3G customers by deploying Nokia Siemens Networks' femto base stations.  more

Nokia Siemens Networks to acquire IRIS Telecom

Nokia Siemens Networks has announced that it is buying Turkey based IRIS Telecom, a telecom and engineering services firm. The acquisition will combine IRIS Telecom's multi-vendor Network Planning and Optimization (NPO) business with Nokia Siemens Networks' global capabilities, to create a regional leader in telecom services.  more
