Telefonica Announces Wide-Spread Trials of LTE Networks

­Telefonica says that it has reached an agreement with six LTE technology providers to launch LTE test projects in six different countries. The suppliers Telefonica has chosen so far: Alcatel-Lucent, Ericsson, Huawei, NEC, Nokia Siemens Networks and ZTE, will start rolling out the equipment necessary for testing the technology during the coming months.  more

World's first LTE call on commercial software

­Nokia Siemens Networks says that it recently made the world's first LTE call using commercial base station and fully standard compliant software. The Nokia Siemens Networks' call was made via base stations with fully complaint software to the 3GPP Rel.8 (March 2009 baseline) LTE standard, bringing LTE trials closer to the behavior of future commercial deployments.  more

Nokia Siemens Networks Opens Nth American LTE Center

Nokia Siemens Networks has announced the setting up of an LTE research lab in the USA, which will be manned by approximately 500 people, consisting of both existing employees and new hires. In addition, the current head of NSN's North America division, Sue Spradley will join the company's executive board, effective immediately. Nokia 1st-Quarter Profit Plunges by 90 Percent
