A new econometric study commissioned by Nokia Siemens Networks and conducted by economic consulting firm LECG under the direction of Professor Leonard Waverman explored the economic benefits from the wave of broadband diffusion that occurred in Europe and the United States over the last 10 years. The study finds that in countries where ICT diffusion and usage were at medium or high levels, not only had broadband technology spread rapidly but the economic benefit from improved broadband penetration was significant. more

Nokia Siemens Wins Contracts in Czech Republic and Slovakia
Telefónica O2 has selected Nokia Siemens Networks to extend its mobile networks in the Czech Republic and Slovakia. Under a three-year contract, Nokia Siemens Networks will be the sole supplier of the 2G and optionally 3G networks covering Slovakia and 2G and 3G in the Czech Republic's two major cities, Prague and Brno. more

Thai Operator to Push Ahead with 3G Network Rollout
Thailand's state owned operator, TOT has told the Reuters news agency that it will proceed with plans to deploy a 3G network, with a commercial launch due by the end of the year. The government has previously hinted that it will sell 3G auctions in the first half of this year. more

Verizon Announces LTE Deployment Plans - Going Live in 2010
Verizon's CTO, Dick Lynch has outlined the company's plans to roll out an LTE upgrade for its wireless network. Lynch announced that Verizon Wireless has selected Ericsson and Alcatel-Lucent as primary network vendors for its initial LTE network deployments. These two vendors are expected to build the underlying infrastructure that will enable Verizon Wireless to become the first wireless company to offer commercial LTE-based service in the United States, starting in 2010. more

KPN Launches Mobile TV Services in The Netherlands
Dutch operator, KPN has launched a MobileTV service - based on kit supplied by Nokia Siemens Networks. The MobielTV service initially offers 10 television channels with high-quality images. The service is made available through a broadcast network based on the Digital Video Broadcast for Handheld (DVB-H), the European standard for mobile television, and can be watched on DVB-H-enabled mobile devices. more

Nokia Siemens Networks expected to start operations in the first quarter 2007
Nokia and Siemens have said that the planned merger to create the new company Nokia Siemens Networks is expected to close in the first quarter of next year. In light of the current investigations of Siemens, the scope of which includes the carrier-related business to be transferred to the new company, Nokia and Siemens intend to adjust their agreements in order to have Siemens conduct an appropriate compliance review prior to closing of the transaction. This adjustment is an addition to the previously agreed closing conditions. Nokia will participate actively in the review. more
