Jakob Nielsen Says Mobile Websites 15-Years Behind for Usability

It is neither easy nor pleasant for people to use the Web on their mobile phones, according to a report released today by user-experience research firm nielsen Norman Group. In usability studies conducted in the US and UK, researchers found that the average success rate for users completing tasks on the mobile Internet was 59 percent compared to an average success rate of 80 percent for websites accessed on a regular PC.  more

India's CDMA Operators' Data Network Performance Has a Distinct Edge over GSM

Verizon Wireless Reported to be in Talks for CDMA Based iPhone

Verizon is reported to be in advanced talks with Apple to launch a CDMA version of the iPhone handset. The mobile network operator entered into "high-level" discussions with Apple management a few months ago, when CEO Steve Jobs was overseeing day-to-day business, sources told USA Today. The sources declined to be named because they aren't authorized to speak publicly.  more

Media-Saturn Group Acquires Majority Stake in 24-7 Entertainment

Germany's Media-Saturn Holding says that it has acquired a controlling interest in 24-7 Entertainment, a B2B white-label mobile content distributor. The company, which was founded in 2000, operates 41 download stores in 13 countries and has license agreements in place with over 12,000 labels including all the major record companies and independent labels.  more

Californian Girl Sent Over 14,500 Text Messages in December

A 13-year old girl in California sent 484 text messages every day in December - an average of one message every 2 minutes during the waking hours. The father, Greg Hardesty told the New York Post his 440-page mobile phone bill revealed his daughter Reina had sent an astonishing 14,528 text messages.  more

Microsoft Wins Mobile Search Deal with Verizon

Verizon Wireless has signed a deal with Microsoft to provide portal, local and Internet search as well as mobile advertising services to customers on its devices. The five-year agreement will go into effect in the first half of 2009 when Microsoft Live Search is targeted to be available on new Verizon Wireless feature phones and smartphones.  more

Apple Poor at Converting iPhone Queries into iPhone Sales

nielsen Mobile has estimated that there are 3.6 million mobile subscribers 13+ actively using the Apple iPhone, as of October 2008. While some sources suggest that the iPhone has overtaken MotorolaÃ's RAZR in sales, their analysis of Q3 acquisitions shows a very close race at the top. Among those subscribers who acquired their phone in the past three months, iPhone had a 3% market share in Q3 2008, behind the Motorola RAZR V3 series which still had a 5% share of recently acquired devices.  more
