DoCoMo Buys Stake in Mobile Video Vendor
Japan's NTT DoCoMo has acquired a 35-percent stake in US based PacketVideo for US$45.5 million. The company, a subsidiary of NextWave Wireless is a developer of mobile video services. To date, PacketVideo's popular CORE multimedia player, pvPlayer, has been installed in more than 90 DoCoMo handset models. more

IPWireless Sold to its Management
IPWireless was been sold to its management by its parent company, NextWave Wireless and secured long term financing with a significant (if unnamed) strategic partner. IPWireless was founded in 1999 and was acquired in May, 2007 by NextWave Wireless and became part of the NextWave Network Products division. In an announcement on December 26, 2008 NextWave disclosed that it had sold 75 percent of IPWireless to IPW Holdings, an entity formed by the senior IPWireless management team. more

UK Operators Sharing 3G Spectrum for Mobile TV Trials
Orange and T-Mobile UK have announced they intend to jointly pilot a new mobile TV and multimedia broadcast service in London using NextWave Wireless' 3G MBMS based TDtv solution. The pilot, scheduled for the second half of 2008, is designed to demonstrate how the cost of providing mobile TV services can be significantly reduced when mobile operators share widely-available unpaired 3G spectrum and a standards-based TDtv broadcast network. more
